Marketing for Authors: The Basics

Hello: everyone, my name, is Madeleine. I’m the author of the young adult novel essence and historical fantasy novel. I am mercy, and today we are here to talk about some marketing. So, a little while ago on Twitter, I asked you guys if you would be interested in some marketing video, so you can figure out how to sell your book in the response with yes, of course, so hopefully this will be the first of many marketing videos that You guys will see on this channel recently, I’ve, become more and more familiar with the art of marketing, because I work as a marketing and PR intern.

I’ve, been a marketing intern at about three different organizations right now, so that means I’ve, been able to learn a lot of different techniques. So, even though I haven’t been able to apply all of them to my books, yet I am going to, and I want to take you guys, along with me and kind of walk you through what I’m doing today.

We’re, starting off with the basics. Marketing is a big subject, so I narrowed down the basics, to three different things and those three things are a product, a home and a present. So if you’re an author, your product is your book.

Your product can be other things as well, but that is a whole nother can of worms that I will cover in another video. But basically you are all about your book. All decisions you make in terms of marketing decisions should revolve around your book each time you decide how you want to market something you have to figure out.

If it’s going to benefit your book and of course you could have a strategic marketing plan. But if the book isn’t well written, then it’s not going to pick up. So if you think you can just rush through the writing phase and go straight to the marketing and rethink that plan, because it’s not going to go over well make sure you really put a lot of work into that novel into publishing it And then you can come back to the marketing later.

The second step is finding a home. Your home is your website. You need an author website if you’re, going to be an author, all information about your book, all information about yourself and all your social media channel should lead back to they’re on Twitter.

You only have so many characters to give a, so you want to make sure you have the full bio on your website that way. If someone finds you on Twitter and they want to learn more, they just have to click on the website link and they can fear everything they ever wanted to know about.

You make it easy for them to find the information try to organize it. The best you can and of course, have a contact form so if they do have further questions or if they want to interview you, if you’re first starting out your website, doesn’t have to be super fancy just make sure.

As you evolve as an author, your website reflects that as well and less but not least, find a presence. This is social media marketing. You, I can tell you, I can tell you so much about marketing on social media.

It’s just endless and it’s free, but today we’re, not going to go into that. You just need to know that you need to be there. The only way people are going to know your book exists is if they know you exist, and to knows you exist, you have to be somewhere on social media, a little more in depth with social media, marketing and future videos.

But today we’re, going to keep it down to three things, be professional, be relevant and be you anyways that’s it for today’s. Video be sure to. Let me know in the comments down below.
